Wall Decor - DIY with Patterned Papers
Hello,
I've been working on some simple DIY home decor ideas recently and I shared a few of them over the last couple months. Check them out here.
Today, I'm sharing another simple wall decor project that I created using patterned papers. It was inspired from a Pinterest creation. Have a look first!
This is how it decorates our living room!
Ready to know how to make it?
Just grab some of your favorite patterned papers, some cereal boxes, trimmer, scissors and strong glue! That's all you need! :)
Start by cutting out 5" squares from cereal boxes. You will need 13 such squares to form this design. The cardboard from these boxes give a sturdy base.
Then choose your patterned papers and cut out 13 squares of 6" size. I've chosen the Nakshathra Designs Mandala paper pack. It is my most favorite pack and I love the vibrant colors and designs! :) It is also super thick and sturdy, similar to the cereal boxes, so perfect for this decor!
Score the 6" patterned paper squares at a little less than 1/2 inch from all 4 sides, and trim away the 4 corner squares you get on scoring. Now wrap this around the base card and adhere using strong adhesive. I've used red tacky tape. This forms one square for the design.
Repeat the steps with all the 13 squares. Arrange the squares in a way you like the patterns to show. I chose to have the red as corners, with the blues in between. The greens go in the middle with the purple being the center.
Now comes the little tough part, to form the design with perfect spacing. I used my scoreboard to help with it. Start by working in a square pattern and you can change it to a diamond while hanging. Place one square at the top left of the scoreboard and space the next a few inches away, I chose 3 inches. Now take the 3rd one and place it below the 1st 3 inches away. The 4th one goes 3inches right of the 3rd and 3 inches below the 2nd. It is basically a big square formed with 4 squares that are spaced 3 inches apart!
Take the 5th square and place it over the 4 squares, right in the center. The overlapping parts will also form a square shape. Adhere this 5th one in a way 3 sides are on the top and the bottom right side goes under the 4th square. I wish the below pic explains it in a way!
Continue adding more squares to this pattern keeping the same distance between each. Once you get it right, the rest of the pieces will fall into perfect shape! Tilt the square and hang on the wall in a diamond shape :) I've just used 4 push pins to hold the decor on the wall!
Here are some more close up pics after completing!

A look at the back side, you can see the cardboard I've used and how the patterned paper is wrapped around.
